Coasteering started back in the 1970’s and is now one of the most popular growing sports.
It combines exploring the inter tidal area of a rocky coast on foot or by swimming and can also include using boards or boats. Climbing, scrambling, sea level traversing: the very nature of the coastline that is needed for coasteering demands aspects of these activities. Any climbing activity usually takes place above deep water, with safety spotters are used where appropriate.
Coasteering also provides the opportunity for marine geology, to see the “impact zone” where water, waves, rocks, gullies, caves etc, come together to provide a very high energy environment.
It is necessary to be able to swim but wetsuits and buoyancy aids are supplied.
